Dezeen Showroom: New York design practice Ocrum Studios has released a mirror that is both a functional and a decorative item and resembles “a window with a view that you can hang from your walls”.
The circular Orizon mirror is split in two – with the top half made of tinted glass and the bottom half finished in a layer of undulating, hand-glazed ceramic – to create the impression of looking out to sea at the distant horizon.
“Orizon is a window with a view that you can hang from your wall, its ocean-like surface blending neatly into a lush and brightly-coloured sky,” Ocrum Studios explained.
“The combination of vitrified ceramic and coloured mirror strikes a contemporary look without sacrificing the human touch of traditional craftsmanship.”
The result is a piece of wall art that seamlessly integrates its practical, reflective quality into its artistic expression.
Orizon is available in three colours to suggest different times of day, from vivid, clear blue skies to the muted hues of moonlight and a bright coral pink that evokes a tropical sunset.
