Any architect, designer or student that has created a computer-generated architectural model will know that achieving the desired level of realism can be a huge challenge. Thankfully, software like V-Ray — Chaos Group‘s hugely popular rendering application — makes it infinitely easier to create visualizations full of light, texture, ambience and atmosphere.

We’re therefore delighted to announce a new prize for the 2nd Annual One Rendering Challenge — 2 top winners and 10 commended entries will receive a V-Ray license of their choice! Get your best rendering submitted before the Entry Deadline on December 4th to be in the running for $2,500 and this powerful software:

Chaos Group is offering two Grand Prize Winners a 12 month V-Ray subscription for a software of their choosing, worth up to $470. Further to this, 10 Commended Entrants will receive a 6 month V-Ray subscription for a software of their choice.

“V-Ray is built for architecture,” says Chaos Group. “It connects seamlessly with the top 3D modeling and design applications used in architectural visualization, including 3ds MaxRevitRhinoSketchUp, and Unreal. V-Ray’s full suite of tools allows you to render anything you can imagine, from early massing models to photorealistic imagery, animation — and even VR presentations of your final designs.”

V-Ray was developed to make the rendering process fast and simple at every stage of design, with a raytracer that’s designed for quality, optimized for speed, and ready to scale. The software is also built to handle complex models and the most intricate scenes, using its arsenal of industry-proven features, including Adaptive Lights, Proxy Objects, and Distributed Rendering.

It’s an ideal complement to any architect or rendering artist’s favorite modeling application, and makes for a compelling addition to this year’s One Rendering Challenge prize package.

Competition Brief

The brief for the One Rendering Challenge is beautifully simple: Create one, singular rendering that powerfully communicates an architectural form or space and the experience of those that would inhabit it. It can:

  • Be located anywhere in the world and be at any scale.
  • Take the form of a perspective, parallel projection, section, abstract or any other image format.
  • Be an existing rendering that you have created in past years, or a new creation.

As long as it is a computer generated visualization that portrays part or all of a building or group of buildings, it is eligible. This should be accompanied by a short description of your proposal, no more than 150 words.
