Panorama chair by Geckeler Michels for Karimoku around table

Dezeen Showroom: Berlin design studio Geckeler Michels has developed a versatile chair for Japanese furniture brand Karimoku that can be stacked and kitted out with armrests.

The “universal” Panorama chair is crafted from sustainably-sourced Japanese oak and complements Karimoku’s New Standard range of high-end wooden furnishings.

It was made to be stackable and easily stored away for use in professional settings such as meeting rooms, restaurants and lecture halls.

Panorama’s plywood seat and backrest resemble simple sheets of paper and give the design a linear look, while their generous dimensions allow for comfortable sitting.

The chair can also be equipped with armrests and runners that facilitate a forward-tilted sitting position, which is useful for completing smaller tasks.

“Besides the linear expression of the silhouette, the preciseness and high-quality craftsmanship of this Made in Japan product will appeal to design connoisseurs,” said Geckeler Michels.

“The result turned out to be a universal and versatile chair design that can fit in anywhere.”
